Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)
If you are inadmissible to Canada, due to criminal, security, or medical reasons, but have a justifiable reason to travel to Canada, you may be eligible for Temporary Resident Permit Canada Application.
A Temporary Resident Permit (TRP)will allow an inadmissible person come to Canada temporarily. TRP can only be used for entry to Canada as a foreign worker, foreign student or as a visitor and not for any permanent residency processes. The applicant is required to demonstrate there is a significant reason they must enter Canada.
If a person has been convicted of an offence and less than five years have elapsed since the completion of the sentence or more than five years have elapsed since the completion of the sentence and the inadmissible person has not applied for, or received, a positive decision on an application for criminal rehabilitation, then the person will need TRP to VisitCanada temporarily.
If an applicant is eligible for criminal rehabilitation but have not yet applied and require entry to Canada, then the applicant should not only apply for a TRP but for Criminal Rehabilitation as well.
Criminal Rehabilitation is a permanent solution to criminal inadmissibility, while a TRP is a temporary bridge for inadmissibility.
Application for TRP can be made at a Canadian visa office or at a port of entry.
In order to get a TRP, you must have a compelling reason for entering Canada. The benefits of your entrance and stay in Canada must prove to outweigh the potential safety and health risks to Canadian society. Some good reasons for entering Canada, are
a) A very important family event;
b) business conferences and networking events;
c) Visiting ill relative:
As a Temporary Resident Permit holder, one must:
- comply with the conditions imposed on the TRP;
- Must not work or study without a work or study permit;
- Cannot re-enter Canada without prior authorization;
- Must leave Canada at the end of your authorized period of stay.
The processing fee to apply for a TRP is $200 CAD. TRPs that are granted can be of single-entry or multiple-entry . The maximum duration that a TRP can be granted is 3 years, but TRP can also be granted for as little as a day or two.
